Great trail that runs along Horton creek. Trailhead has a toilet, and parking for 8-10 cars. Plenty of overflow parking if you get there late. Just walk across the bridge, and up in to the campground for the actual start of the trail.
Did a loop of Derrick to Highline to Horton Creek trails.
Awesome hike. I took 4 kids ages 6-12, beautiful weather with a bit of rain.
The trail is easy in places, moderate in others. There is an interesting combination of water, rocks, & trees. I saw monarch butterflies & one butterfly that was purple & black...so pretty.
Always a blast spending time out here!
Get there early folks. During the week, it never really seems to get busy before 11:00 am
My family has hiked here a couple of times (young kids and a dog) and had fun every time. In the warmer months the water in fun for the kids to play in. Nothing too challenging and easy to hike as far as you want them turn around and come back. Having the bathrooms at the trailhead are great if you got little ones. The scenery is beautiful and we caught sight of a couple deer one morning.
The start of the trail can feel a little disappointing as it's just another dry creek bed, but go up just a little more and it gets significantly better as the water is flowing and the mini waterfalls and greenery spread.
I took my oldest on a three day backpacking trip here in November after the first snow and it was amazing. Easy hike, clear trail and plenty of places close to the trail to camp. If you're just wanting to try backpacking or taking newbies this is a great trail.
Went at 9am on a Tuesday & had the entire trail to ourselves. It was a bit of a scramble as the flooding had washed a lot of debris onto the path, but it was still a beautiful, peaceful & much needed adventure. The waterfalls were flowing at super speed and the sound was so loud. 10/10 recommend. & remember‼️ check the weather & pack it in, pack it out ‼️
Beautiful hike! I spent one night backpacking. The area is amazing! The parking lot fills up VERY fast so get there EARLY. I could barely get my truck out when I got back on Sunday at around noon, because people had created their own 'spaces' and almost blocked me in.
One of the best trails on the rim. A lot of the hike is along the creek and it's not too busy. Once you feel you are at the end, make sure you keep going to the spring to get the absolute best water you've ever tasted.
